Men in Blaque is the eclectic male vocal ensemble in residence at the University of California, Irvine. This exciting male chorus has received outstanding critical reviews and enthusiastic audience response. Repertoire includes settings of “Ave Maria”, male choruses by Franz Schubert, secular folk songs, spirituals and Broadway selections including West Side Story and South Pacific. Successful concerts have been presented in the Southern California region, in Europe, Central America, Korean and China. Reviews and commentaries are unanimous in their praise of this high-quality vocal ensemble.
The Men in Blaque were invited, as one of seven international ensembles, to participate in the prestigious Alava International Choral Festival held in Vitoria-Gastiez, Spain. Seven Concerts were presented during September, 2001, including a momentous concert on September 11. In July, 2003, The Men in Blaque accepted the invitation to perform in the Festival Coro De Mundo in Puebla, Mexico, as representatives of the United States of America. The following summer the ensemble was featured in the Daegu (South Korea) International Choral Festival. In July, 2006 the men were awarded two silver medals and a gold certificate when competing with over 400 choirs in the Choral Olympics in Xiamen, China. They will return to the Olympic Festival in 2008 at Graz, Austria.
Four compact disc recordings have been produced. I Wonder As I Wander (2001), features music for the Christmas holiday season; Live in Spain (2003), was recorded in Burgos, Spain at the King's Palace; Many Moods(2004), was released for the Korea tour and 10th Anniversary (2007) features excerpts from their 9/11 concert in Spain as well as highlights from their first ten years.
